Pakistan Army Retribution is a first-person shooter game which is based on the Army Public School Attack that happened in Peshawar in 2014. The game lets you become a Pakistani soldier who hunts for the militants in the school.
The terrorist attack on APS is considered as one of the deadliest attacks in the history of Pakistan as it is stained with the blood of young martyrs. This unfortunate event left the whole country shocked and numbed with extreme grief. The Pakistani soldiers however tried their best to fight the terrorists and saved hundreds of other students from falling prey to the enemies. In spite of all the efforts, the terrorists martyred around 144 pupils and marked this date as an abomination to humanity.
Pakistan Army Retribution Game-play:
To pay tribute to the efforts of Pakistani soldiers, the Punjab IT board decided to design a game based on the APS attack. The game was thought to spur the feelings of patriotism, bravery, and heroism among citizens. It was developed by an independent studio and was available for Android users.
The Pakistan Army Retribution gameplay starts with the Pakistani national anthem and then radar and on-screen navigation appears to guide the player throughout the game. The player has to find all the terrorists hiding within the premises of the school and shoot them. The terrorists are heavily armed and are scattered at different places in the school. The gunshots are very limited and the player has to play very skilful to clear a level.
To navigate, the player can use the four-tap keys to move right, left, back and forth. At each level, the player has to guide the Pakistani soldier into the school building and eliminate the terrorists. The game consists of nine levels and ends with a victory of Pakistan Army over the terrorists. The Pakistan Army Retribution game download was available on the Google Playstore.
Release and Removal from Google Store:
As soon as the game was released, it was criticized by many people, especially on the social media. The game was however a part of a peaceful campaign and its aim was to spread peace and harmony within the country. But according to DAWN newspaper, it failed on all the fronts. On Twitter, many people declared it as distasteful and bizarre.
The Chief of Punjab IT board, Umar Saif stated that the game was released near the anniversary of the Peshawar school attack and was designed solely for the purpose of honoring the martyrs and paying tribute to the Pakistan Army. After all this criticism, the game was pulled out by the Chief of Punjab IT board. The game was thought to be very controversial as it was thought to create the feeling of terror and uncertainty among people. Moreover, it was very painful for the families of the victims to even think that such a game exists. The Peshawar attack was an unforgettable and unfortunate incident in the history of Pakistan, and designing a game on such an issue is considered insensitive.
