Introduction

Water wastage is a serious issue around the world. Some people waste water intentionally or playfully. While some others don’t even know that they are wasting water.  Because of household leaks, there can be a wastage of 180 gallons of water in the average family.

The ratio becomes a jaw-dropping number which is 900 billion gallons when we consider it nationwide. As a matter of fact, there are thousands of people in the world deprived of pure drinking water.

However, we can save this massive waste of water just by taking simple steps. We can turn the wastewater into pure drinking water by cleaning it using a water filter.  In today’s article, I will mention 10 ways you can apply to save water.

1. Check for leaks

The first thing you should do is to find out if there are any leaks in your house. People waste nearly 900 billion gallons of water because of leakage in the household. You should check all faucets, toilets, and showerheads if there are any kind of leaks. If you find a single leakage immediately consult a plumber.

Leaks outside the home disturb you less than the inner leaks in the pipeline. However, the outside leakage is more wasteful than the inner leaks. So, you should not ignore any of them. Repair them now if you see any leakage.

2. Change the Showerhead

A showerhead is a great tool you can save water with. If you are currently using a conventional showerhead that flows water faster and delivers water at a more gallon per minute rate, then go for low-flow showerheads.

A conventional showerhead delivers approximately 5 gallons per minute whereas a low-flow showerhead delivers only 1.6 gallons per minute. Changing your showerhead can save you up to 50% of the water wastage. To save water, you should change your showerhead today.

3. Using Water-saving Toilet

Water-saving toilets can save up to 20000-liter water per year. In today’s flush tanks, you will see that there are two parts in the flush button. One is smaller than the other. It indicates when you urinate then use the smaller part and when you poop you should use the bigger part. If you click the smaller part it will flush 3-5 liters of water. On the other hand, if you click the bigger part it will flush about 8-10 liters of water.

4. Install a Faucet Aerator

This one is a smart solution to water wastage. You can install a low-flow faucet aerator for your sink, basin, etc. Low-flow faucet aerators come at a low price. It will save you water and money at the same time. They can save water by 50%

5. Use Water Filter

In most cases, we throw away the water that we use for once. Or sometimes we don’t even keep the water for secondary use. Well, in France there is a water purification zone that uses all the nasty water of Paris and turns them into drinking water. It is proof that a water filter can surely turn unusable water into usable one.

So, use a water filter to reuse water. This will as a result keep you from using more water. Rather you can use the same water again. Thus, a water filter helps you to save water to great extent.

6. Turn off the Faucet

Most of us do not bother turning the faucet off while washing dishes. This causes a huge amount of water to get wasted. Many people wash their dishes keeping the faucet open. As a result the water continuously goes to the pipeline. You cannot use this water anymore. So, turn the faucet off while doing other stuff like washing dishes or anything else. In fact, to save water you should turn the faucet off whenever you get time.

7. Turn the Faucet off While Brushing your teeth

I have seen people after waking up from sleep brushing their teeth keeping the faucet go on. Well, they do it just out of habit. They don’t even think that they are wasting water. In the USA there is at least one person doing this in every household. You have to stop this right now. You can’t imagine how much the water savings would be if everyone developed this habit.

8. Don’t water the gutter

When you water your garden you have to keep an alert eye on the places you pour water. Because in most cases, people do it without any concentration which causes the water to go to places that has no need for water. Water your garden, not the gutter. Another thing about the watering garden. Do not water your garden on a windy day. That will result in the water’s going to places unnecessary.

9. Wash Cars Taking Water on a Bucket

Most people while washing a car using a hosepipe. They keep the water supply machine running. This is one of the most brutal ways of wasting water. If you need to wash your car then take water on a bucket. Take water on a bucket several times if you need it. But do keep water running through the hosepipe and wash your car. It is such a waste of water.

10. Put a Bottle in Your Toilet Tank

The water that we flush is not wholly used for cleaning the toilet commode. Rather at least 20% of it gets wasted without any reason. To save water from that you can keep a bottle inside the water tank. That will keep some water into it and that water will get renewed every time you flush.

Final Suggestion

No matter how many ways I show you to save water. These will have no effect if you do not realize that water saving is important. Every day there are thousands of people are getting deprived of pure water. You are getting pure water and destroying it. You can save water only when you become water conscious.
