Pakistani Wedding Rasams: Different rituals or Rasams last from three to five days. Traditionally it starts with Mangnai/Engagement ceremony. Right before the wedding ceremony start, mostly family prefer to have Quranic recitation with the friends and family. The official party starts Mayun/Ubtan/Dholki – different names for almost the same event. Close friends and family gather to sing and perform certain beauty rituals for bride and groom. The first main event kicks off with Rasam-e-Mehndi. This is the day when the youngsters of both sides sing, dance and have fun. The main event is Baraat, where sometimes Nikkah is also performed and later the groom side takes the bride with them. Next day is walima where a party is given to everyone.

Pakistani Wedding Traditions Gifts: On the face of it, the whole wedding ceremony looks like an event of colour and dance, but there are more aspects to it also. Traditionally the gifts are exchanged between the two sides of the family. Closer the relation to bride & groom, the expensive the gifts are. Mostly parents and siblings give gold and others give money. At the same time, household items are also given as gifts especially from the bride’s side. One major religious-based gift is given by the groom to the bride, called haq mehar. Normally it is in the form of money. The immediate family on both sides also exchange gifts with each other. So in a way, there is a never-ending tradition of gifts exchange.
