Population management is basically a process for reviewing the populations, identifying their related problems and issues, and then taking actions accordingly. This population management system has shifted the paradigm from just responding to the patient’s demand to searching and looking for patients needing care and finally reaching out to them for help. Population management is to keep the human population at a specific level that can be carried out for the population size. The size of the population, its structure, the overall distribution, and the population growth all lie under the umbrella of population management.

The growth of population and the resources available are related to each other. Before moving towards the deeper details of let’s look at some basic terminologies. One important and frequent term is “population and population health” which states the number of people living together in a state, a city, or any specific area.

Not only this person sharing the same geographical area as employees of an organization or a patient that receive care from a health care system also refers to the population and population health. Another important term is “Population management” which is the system of coordinated healthcare interventions and communications for the populations with certain specific conditions in which patient self-care efforts are most significant.

Population management has the following major concerns: getting to know the similar risk factors that affect a group, evaluating the steps to be taken to improve the overall group health, identifying preventive care intermediacy, analyzing and assisting aggregated patient data for the clinical decision-making process, using preferred patient communication to follow up with patients.

Population management is beneficial in improving the performance by enabling the practices to effectively and efficiently reach out to patients that need care rather than waiting for them to call or pay a visit themselves.

What would be the challenging task?

We have to wait for patients to come regularly for regular evaluation or visits is an obsolete way to meet their needs for health problems. Such patients come with chronic illness or problems that are forgotten or perceived late and when they visit a doctor for a check-up. Many patients did not receive important preventive care services. This creates problems in care that lead to poor health outcomes.

What needs to get changed?

A regular review of the data on clinically important patients is the most important aspect. Where there is a major cultural shift for many practices, it is also unfamiliar work for the staff. Population management helps to keep the patients healthier and active by percipient and efficiently addressing gaps in care. Many successful practices have suggested that aggressively managing key patient populations has improved their performance. What are the vital steps to control the population?

Natural resources are eradicating rapidly due to the increasing population growth rate. Controlling the population growth rate is highly demanding to save the environment. Following listed are some of the important points that should be considered in order to control population growth.

Controlling birth and improving the health and living conditions of the people

Controlling birth and improving the health and living conditions of the people is top of the list. We can ensure long life and better life of people in this way. There is no point in forgetting what is happening and bringing more babies to life. In fact, in poor countries, the population growth rate is considered very high. It is noticed that in poor people, the birth rate is high as compared to wealthy people.

The problem is not actually the population growth, but where and how that growth takes place. The population of highly industrialized countries does not grow rapidly at this rate rather is quite the opposite, for them the problem is the population decrease, the low birth rate, and there the pressures on labor systems introduce this problem.

  1. Available resources and poverty

Population growth is not a factor in the growth of the poverty rate and in the decrease of this planet’s resources. Humankind has already created enough technological scientific resources that it is not a problem anymore to feed two or three times the current population of this planet.

Today, in this era with the advances in artificially intelligent devices and technological advancement we have made it is possible to produce healthy food to feed the world population. Where there are enough resources, poverty is the natural way to control the growth of the population, thousands are born and hundreds of thousands die from hunger and malnutrition in remote areas.

2. Our mineral demands

The population is one of the factors that is affecting mineral demands. Other factors include increasing urbanization, moderating level of wealth, environmentalism, etc. This means that certain wealthy groups and nations use much more natural resources than poor ones. People now should be converted into a workforce.

3. Technological advancements

The recent advancements in technology used for harvesting food and for sanitation have accelerated the growth of the human population. The increasing human population affects the environment and its resources. Always remember that many of these resources are limited and non-renewable.

Technological advances can improve the productivity rate hence the buying time for growing populations. But they can retard any further growth. Growth if continued can diminish the returns to labor can bring about scarcities in food or other commodities.

There are some possible solutions to control the population.

1. Empowering women

Studies have shown that women getting reproductive health services can easily break out of poverty whereas those who are working are more likely to use birth control. Therefore, promote family planning. In family planning, women’s empowerment plays an important role. Female employment as seen nowadays is that women are more destined and focused for their career.

The women, who are economically independent, are more inclined toward family planning. They cannot afford more children liabilities. There must be some government incentives for local people. Besides these incentives, the government should have legislation about birth control. The government of those countries where the birth rate is high enough must introduce a family planning policy.

2. Factors affecting birth rate:

The age factor is the first factor i.e. early marriage should be discouraged. Marriages at a very young age have the maximum possibility of having more children. Government and non-government organizations must launch awareness campaigns among the people. Religious beliefs also play an important role to increase family size.

Rich people, no doubt can afford to have more children but their lifestyle may restrict them from this. The research shows that migration of the people in to and out of the country important; to measure the population growth. There could be much more reasons for population growth, it depends on the local situation of the country. The cultural values cannot be ignored. Here we mentioned some reason, which is generally common to all countries. Post Credit: FCBMedical Services in the UK.
