Things Australians Should Consider When Installing Kitchen Range Hoods

2 Mins read

For those who are considering installing a range hood in their kitchen, they’ll want to make sure it’s the right size for their stove and that it ventilates properly. They might also want to consider if they want a ducted system, an under-cabinet installation, or Kitchen Island Range Hoods. Ensure the range hood is powerful enough to handle the heat in the kitchen.

The size and power of the range hood are factors that should also be considered. If the home has a larger stove, it will need a stronger range hood to handle its heat. On the other hand, if the house has a smaller stove, then having less powerful ventilation isn’t as big of a deal because there won’t be as much smoke coming out of the kitchen. In addition to considering the size and power of the current stove, also consider how many people live in the household.

Make Sure That The Range Hood Is Installed High Enough

Although the first step to installing something a Kitchen Island Range Hood is selecting the right one, it’s also essential that people consider how high it should be positioned above the cooking surface. If a range hood isn’t installed at least 7 feet above the stove, it won’t be able to ventilate properly, and this could result in an increased risk of carbon monoxide poisoning or fire damage.

Installation height depends on the size of the stove:

  • For gas stoves measuring up to 36 inches wide, install the range hood 8 feet above its burners.
  • If it measures more than 36 inches wide, install it at least 9 feet above its burners.
  • For electric stoves measuring up to 30 inches wide, install the range hood 6 feet above its burners.
  • If the stove is more than 30 inches wide, install it at least 7 feet high from where the cooking takes place.

Choose A Range Hood That Is The Right Size For The Stove Top

The stove top size is essential. Keep in mind that range hoods are available in different sizes, so make sure that it fits the stovetop. If the house has an island stove and people want to install a ventless range hood, be sure it’s tall enough to fit over it. Of course, Australians should also consider the basic regulations for fire and safety according to the Australian standards prescribed by the government.

Decide How The Range Hood Should Ventilate And Install It Accordingly

After picking out the right range hood for the kitchen, it’s time to install it. There are a few things to consider during this process:

  • How will the range hood ventilate? Does it come with a duct, or will there be a need to create one?
  • Where should the range hood go? Is there an optimal location for installation?
  • How will users control the light, power, and ventilation of their new range hood? Can these features be easily accessed by everyone in the household?

When installing a range hood in the kitchen, ensure it’s powerful enough, positioned high enough and large enough for the space. Position the range hood so that it is easily accessible when people are cooking or cleaning. Ensure to position the range hood above the stovetop to avoid spatter from boiling liquids.
